Fast Movers
When you watch normal people shopping, you will see that there is a consistent speed that they move through a store. In LP it’s described as a “stutter walk”. Here’s what this means:
A person that comes in, even if they already have an idea of what they want, will tend to look at other items that catch their eye. As they continue through the store, they will almost certainly continue doing this as they see other items that interest them.
A person comes into a store, any store, and they will have their mind set on what they are looking for. They have a need and they’ve come in to purchase something that fulfills that need. When they come into the store, they may be very familiar with the layout because they’ve been in it on previous occasions. This means that they are pretty aware of where merchandise is in the store. They will bypass the sections that they are not interested in and go directly to what they need. This is the same thing that a shoplifter does. They can be identified as “fast movers” because they will usually make a beeline for exactly what they want. They will not waste time looking at things that they know they’re not interested in. Keep in mind that this applies to the person that has come into the store with the intention of stealing.
The agent that is watching their sales floor will be able to tune into this behavior very easily. This technique is especially effective when the security person is able to focus on the store’s entrance. This behavior is extremely obvious when the shoplifter displays it as soon as they enter the location.
